Tuesday News

After a good (!) night’s sleep our first full day at Le Chateau was very varied, and included several different activities, as well as a trip to the Farm and the Chocolaterie. Here’s how some of the children saw the day:

Today we went to the Wheat Farm. It was great fun. We tried abseiling and I was scared, but I did it anyway. (Sarah)

Today the abseiling and activities were fun, and at the wheat farm we were able to make ornaments. (Josh A)

Today I enjoyed the climbing the most because I think I did well. (James I)

It was an epic day today. Abseiling and climbing were great fun and I did them both. They were amazing. (Lucy A)

Today I felt really nervous about abseiling. In the end I did it three times. (Daisy)

Today I had an amazing time on the rock climbing wall because it was really fun and I felt like a bird as I went up. (Yousef)

We started today with a fantastic breakfast. After that we completed the obstacle course. It was going so well until Miss Wilson fell over and Oscar lost his trousers in the ‘washing machine’ (tyre mangle). We also had so much fun at the chocolate factory learning how to make chocolate. (Elle, Izzy B, Lily-Mae)

We had an amazing time at the Wheat farm. All of us learned how to use wheat to make a masterpiece. We had great fun doing this and are looking forward to our upcoming activities. (Finn and Davone)

Today was great fun as we went in lots of mud and got wet! (James P)

Today was amazing! We went to a chocolate factory and learned how to make yummy chocolate. (Euan)

Today we went to the archery course. There we learned how to load a bow and shoot accurately. It was a ton of fun. (Ashwin)

Today we went to the chocolate factory and it smelled delicious. We also went to a wheat farm and made little wheat hearts. This has been great fun as we’ve eaten some chocolate and had brilliant activities. (Melissa, Lucy S and Ronnie)

We tried our best and were able to conquer our fears on the climbing and abseiling walls. Some of us were surprised about how well we did. (Izzy)

I was very surprised about what I was able to achieve in abseiling because the ladder looked very daunting and I learnt to never look down. (Leonnie)

At the chocolate factory I learned about the process of making chocolate and I really enjoyed tasting the chocolate that the company made! (Angus)

At the Wheat Farm I found it very interesting how many different types of braids you could do with the wheat and I liked the different designs they made. (Lucy)

I was amazed at how the chocolate factory had their own plantation in Ecuador. I was also surprised at the amazing range of delightful and delicious treats that they had created. (Lily C)

Today was really fun. At first we were a bit scared of leaving the abseiling tower, but after a while we overcame our fear of jumping off . The encouragement from our team was really helpful. (Charlotte and Charlotte)

Today we did abseiling. At first I was really scared but when I started. It was really fun. (Amelia L)

Monday Views

We’ve had a wonderful first day. The journey passed very smoothly with no hitches – we even managed to catch an earlier ferry and filled up the fuel tanks in France on the way!

After a lovely first meal the children enjoyed an orienteering session, followed by a fire drill and then bedtime. They’re now fast asleep as I write and getting some much needed rest before a busy day tomorrow, which will include a visit to a chocolate factory and some abseiling for some groups.

Here are some of the children’s thoughts:

Hi everyone! Today we were sent on an epic adventure to France. Our journey on the ferry was exciting and the views amazing. We experienced venturing through the forest on our orienteering mission. We were split into teams and went on a hunt for missing letters. It was a fun activity. (Phoebe, Millie and Isobel H)

It was a real treat. It was an irksome journey; it was so long. The activities were just the solution to make us jubilant, especially the food: chicken goujons, chips and brownies! (Srij)

France is so great. We loved the boatride. Orienteering was hard but we learnt loads from it and had a bit of fun. (Lily-Mae and Elle Phillips)

We’ve had a great time today. We have already done a lot of team work which was fun! (Liam)

In orienteering it was fun and Josh fell in a hole. (Ben P)

Today we worked hard as a team of six and attempted to find letters around the Chateau. We’re having an incredible time!!! (Ben T)

Today was an amazing opportunity to learn a new skill. (Bella)

Today I enjoyed the great banter! (Freddie)

Today it was really fun and orienteering was great. (Oliver)

The cooking was delicious. (Ceira)

The orienteering was really fun and exciting. (Amelia)

Today was great. We’ve had a lovely time so far and can’t wait for more. (Tom M)

Today we had a five hour journey and it was very long. Later on we had dinner: chips, chicken or fish and brownies. (Derrell)

Nearly There…

The day has nearly arrived, and we’re sure the children are all very excited about the week ahead.

You can keep up with events on this blog – we’ll try to post photographs and some writing about each day, but please bear with us – it takes time to upload the photographs and the wi-fi at Le Chateau isn’t that great. We’ll aim to post the blog once the children are settled in bed, so the blog will be updated quite late in the evening or early in the morning.

Please also bear in mind that the children are not likely to see the blog until they’re back home, so any personal messages parents send through the comments section are unlikely to be seen during the week.

Finally – we aim to post pictures of all the children during the week, but we can’t guarantee every child will appear every night!

And so the last night disco begins!!!

Yet another day of great challenges and fun. The children have shown great courage conquering the high ropes, leap of faith and climbing. We have also found some potential archery Olympians of the future!!! Year 4 have proven themselves to be a wonderful group of children who have shown great maturity, character and fun. Well done all of you.

Orienteering and raft building

Another busy day here but exciting too. This morning was taken up by raft building and then racing our models across the pool. In addition to developing their team building skills, the children learnt some valuable lessons about getting value for money and bartering for the best deal.

This afternoon has seen the children working in small teams to map read and solve clues when orienteering; swimming and games on the field.
